Depending on the season, you can hunt for pelagic species like marlin, sailfish, dolphin fish, wahoo, and tuna in the deepwater channels that flows along the Yucatan Peninsula from the south. Closer to shore near the structure of the reefs, anglers can catch grouper, barracuda, shark, snapper, bonito, and jacks.

If you are looking to battle a large billfish, you can hook an American sailfish, a blue marlin, or a white marlin while trolling in the deep waters. These billfish are typically caught during the spring and summer months. There is no feeling quite like the whir of the reel when a billfish hits your hook. You will feel exhilarated as you strap into one of the Sea Fox’s fish-fighting chair for an epic battle. If you are up for a challenge, billfish are the quarry for you.

If you would rather enjoy some constant action, casting around a reef with light tackle may be more appealing to you. Depending on the time of year, you may snag any number of predators stalking feeder fish near a reef. If the snapper are running, you could enjoy a day of hooking fish after fish until you reach your limit.
